Our STEM Learning Lab offers the budding scientists, engineers and problem solving leaders the ideal environment to fuel their spirit of inquiry.
Teachers and students engage in high quality hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) with Next Generation Science Standards and Maker Learning experience.
In the laboratory type study area, students conduct experiments and simulations in a controlled environment.
The students learn to approach a problem scientifically and engineer solutions based on technology equipping them with vital skills to tackle real world challenges.
We connect students to "real world" career opportunities. This widens their perspective on future career options and education beyond high school, ranging from vocational training to college education.

The world needs the students of today to become the scientists, engineers, and problem-solving leaders of tomorrow. Science constantly presents us with new breakthroughs and challenges, creating greater opportunities for problem solving through technology changing the world, as we know it.

At our STEM Learning Lab, we engage teachers and students in high quality, hands-on STEM with Next Generation Science Standards (science, technology, engineering and math) and Maker learning experiences.

Our laboratory type of environment offers students the perfect setting to conduct experiments and simulations in a controlled environment. We plan to connect students to "real world" career opportunities to get them excited about potential job opportunities, future career options and educational opportunities beyond high school in vocational training and/or college opportunities.

We are working on acquiring the support of the business community to move forward with the STEM concepts as we have chosen STEM modules specifically to address industry needs.

The Research Process

Our Young Scientists use a process called the Scientific Method to solve challenges.
The process


  • Involves all the team members in some way
  • Documents the methods, decisions, and conclusion in a notebook
  • Involves interactions with experts in the community to explore the existing challenges and possible solutions through application of technology
  • Identifies one challenge that the team can solve by using STEM
  • Narrows the focus to effectively share the results speedily
  • Researches the challenge using a variety of reliable sources, including interaction with experts
  • Identifies possible solutions that have already been proposed or tried for the challenge
  • Records the bibliography, a list of the sources used in the research
  • Organise, studies, and explains the completed research
  • Applies the research and creativity to develop the proposed solution (the "hypothesis")
  • Tests the solution, by consulting with experts when necessary
  • Modifies solution if found wanting and testing again

The Presentation Process

  • Explore and identify the most creative method of presentation.
  • Written Format - the team will make a presentation of up to 5 minutes
  • Share documentation of records taken develop the solution
  • Create a newspaper story or blog about the challenge, research and the solution
  • Design a one-page advertisement that promotes the solution
  • Develop a laboratory-type report, which may include Title, Question, Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion
  • Performance Formats - Set up and presented by the team in up to 5 minutes
  • Prepare and present a news broadcast that reports the solution
  • Develop and present a teaching segment, which demonstrates how to conduct the research to develop a solution to the challenge
  • Design and present a skit or a play on how the challenge was solved
  • Create a video or a movie that shows the team in action solving the challenge
  • Any creative performance or media format that the team chooses
  • If equipment is required to deliver the presentation, it must be provided and set up by the students, within the allotted period

Award Criteria

  • Award Criteria Identifies a challenge topic of interest that relates to the STEM theme for the season
  • Awards are based on how the team
    • Completes research and collects evidence using reliable sources
    • Demonstrates a well-organized and documented process to study and explain research findings
    • Describes how the research findings were applied to develop and test the solution
    • Shares the solution in an effective and creative presentation
    • Students demonstrate an understanding of the research process
    • Students demonstrate teamwork and effective communication skills
